week 1 - post-trial (mikami)

[ well that sure was one hell of a trial, wasn't it? raven can't say she's exhausted, but she sure is tired. she's pretty composed when she walks out of the theater and back towards the housing complex. she takes her time, not really in a hurry like some other people -- but she does happen to see a very familiar face nearby.

and she can't lie: mikami intrigues her.

I have to admit, I thought you were going to take the bait. I'm impressed that you didn't.

[ He'd kinda hoped nobody would confront him on this, but that was naturally a futile hope. Mikami looks kind of tired now, not as intense as he was during the trial itself. ]

There was no need to. I'd have been to fool to rush in and do anything like that before the deadline.

[ Oh yes, Mikami could feel that everyone in that room had their eyes on him, wanting him to do it. He knows this feeling. When there's people all around him, staring him down, wondering how far apart he'll break himself in the pursuit of an ideal others are too blind to see. It's been a long time since he's last made the experience, but it will never stop feeling immediately familiar. ]

Justice is the order that structures the world. Should structure it. People are foolish and rotten creatures who have elevated their own whims to such a degree that they forget about accountability. But justice is what can make a society functional. Living righteously is the highest virtue one should aspire to.

I'm getting the sense everyone else is more interested in the answer to this question than I am.

[ And he's not really amused by it, from the sounds of it. ]

It's not something I ask myself. There's no half-life to being a good person.

Is it, now?

[ He does not seem particularly intrigued by this. He's heard it all before, many times. He's never cared. But in this place, he might as well see what the other people are made of. ]

How so?

[ With an almost inaudible sigh he answers. ]

That was he was unrighteous and his attempts to garner sympathy, whether sincere or not, were a waste of time.
